Won wins HANMI Classic

JONG Bong Won shot a 1-under to lead the 17th Annual Hotel Association of NMI Charity Classic Golf Tournament at the LaoLao Bay Golf & Resort’s east course on Saturday. 

Won did well in the tour firing four pars in both nines for which he earned 12-shot handicap and finished 71 to win this year’s tournament.

Young Tae Kim had 71.40 to take the second place and Yong Sook Kwon, 71.60 to settle for the third place.

Also making it to the top five were Steve Balakrishna who birdied in Hole No. 16 and Thompson Palik who had Hole No. 5. They went into three-way tie with Kwon at 71.60.

Dong Young “Edward” Lee birdied on Hole Nos. 7, 8 and 16. Despite his a triple-bogey in Hole No. 18, the teenage golfer managed to keep his strokes at 39 in each nines to go 72.

Joining him in the top 10 were Federico Flores who and Ned Norita who were tied at 72.20; Ben Pelisamen, 72.40 and Steve Jang, 7.60.

Also receiving prizes were those who placed 11th to 15th. They are Edward Manglona who also shot a 72.60; Frank Sablan, 72.80; Franco Santos and Yang Kim who both 73 and Dennis Yoshimoto, 73.20.

HANMI also surprised Shayne Villanueva with an award for taking 20th place with a 73.80.

Those who shot closest to the pin were Freddie Cataluna who came 3.9 feet to Hole No. 4; Martin Duenas, 3 feet to Hole No. 6; Frank Sablan, 7.3 feet to Hole No. 11 and Ray Villagomez, 1.8 feet to Hole No. 15.

Rene Battalones who swung for an 18.6 feet in Hole No. 8 was awarded the aggressive driver; Mike Cruz had the accurate drive in Hole No. 14 and Joe Saures launched the longest drive, 310 yards, in fairway No. 18.

The event was blessed with good weather and drew a good number of participants.
