Sponsors build momentum for Governor’s Tourism Cup golf tournament

For the 3rd consecutive year, Pacifica Insurance once again is a Hole-In-One sponsor for the 3rd Annual Governor’s Tourism Cup Golf Tournament. The same could be said for the upcoming Governor’s Tourism Cup Golf Tournament whose beneficiaries are the Marianas Tourism Education Council and My WAVE Clubs of Saipan, Tinian and Rota.

The 3rd Annual Governor’s Tourism Cup Golf Tournament is set for Saturday, September 1, 2018 at the scenic Lao Lao Bay Golf & Resort – East Course with a tee time set at 7:30 a.m. and is hosted by the Office of the Governor and the Marianas Visitors Authority.

Governor Ralph DLG. Torres expressed the importance of building private sector partnerships for charity or community projects.

“Through these private sector partnerships, we can build our capacity to serve our community and provide funding for charitable causes. Throughout the years, MTEC and private partners have helped educate our youth on the importance of tourism. At the end of the day, all this will benefit our entire Commonwealth by sustaining our tourism awareness,” Governor Torres said.

“The tournament has been so fortunate over the years with businesses stepping up as sponsors. It shows how aware businesses are regarding the importance of the tourism industry to the economy, but more importantly, how we reinforce that importance in the generations to come,” says Vicky Benavente, MTEC’s Chairperson.

This year’s Major Sponsors, DFS T-Galleria, the Tan Siu Lin Foundation, Hyatt Regency Saipan, IT&E and United Airlines have all donated $3,000.00 or more in cash and prizes.

The Classic sponsors, Bank of Guam, IP&E, Mar Pac, Marianas Variety and Power 99 have all made generous contributions of $2,000.00 or more in cash and prizes Hole-In-One sponsors Triple J Motors, Pacifica Insurance, and Joeten Motors have put forth fantastic prizes cash and brand new vehicles.

Classic contributor with donations of $1,000.00 include First Hawaiian Bank, Fiesta Resort & Spa, Island Training Solutions, Bank of Saipan and McDonald’s of Saipan. Other donors to the tournament include the Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands (HANMI), Micronesian Brokers, Pacific Islands Club, The Water Company and Triple J 5-Star Wholesale.

Tournament director, James Nelson said, “Sponsorship is key to any successful fundraising event and we look forward to bringing more sponsors on-board because MTEC and the My WAVE Clubs have a direct impact on our student community and the tourism industry.”

This year’s entry fee is $100.00 and includes cart and green fees, morning snacks, free flowing on-course refreshments and awards banquet. Participants can also look forward to the nearest to the pin and longest drive competitions.

Entry forms are available and payments accepted at the Marianas Visitors Authority and Lao Lao Bay Golf & Resort. Golfers are encouraged to enter as soon as possible as player slots are filling up fast and only 144 golfers can be accommodated. The deadline for entries is Wednesday, August 29 at 5 p.m.

The Marianas Tourism Education Council was formed in 2002 to heighten the community’s awareness of the importance of the islands’ tourism industry.

This includes fostering community understanding and support for the visitor industry, educating the community, especially school students, about the value, social benefits, and economic contributions made to the community by the visitor industry and instilling, improving and promoting the “hafa adai” hospitality spirit throughout the Northern Mariana Islands.
