Schorr shines in Oceania Closed mixed doubles

ROBBIE Schorr is bringing home a championship title from the Fiji.

Among the CNMI junior netters who played in the Oceania Closed Junior Championships in Lautoka, Fiji on Friday last week, Schorr who teamed up with Australia’s Chiara Di Tommaso was the only one who won the final match.

He and Tommaso defeated Vanuatu’s Clement Mainguy and Australia’s Cyan Sun, 4-0, 4-1 in the mixed doubles finals on Saturday.

They earned the final berth with a little difficulty surviving the tandem of Australia’s Shuannon Tricerri and Mia Repac in a super tiebreaker, 4-5(1), 4-0, 10-7 during the semi final match.

Schorr and Tommaso clinched the semis slot with a 5-4(1), 1-4, 10-5 win over Australia’s Chen Dong and Solomon’s Zorika Morgan.

Sean Lee and Conatsu Kaga also competed in the mixed doubles but were eliminated by Mainguy and Sun, 1-4, 0-4.

Schorr were also among the CNMI junior players who played in the boys’ singles main draw but were eliminated by their respective opponents.

Schorr lost to Australia’s Alext Bulte, 6-0. 6-0; Sean Lee to No. 4 Australia’s Stefan Storch, 6-0, 6-0 and Ken Song to No. 3 Australia’s Ken Cavrak, 6-0, 6-0.

In the boys’ doubles, Schorr who teamed up with Tahiti’s Jeremy Guines made it to the quarter finals over Ken Song and Sean Lee, 6-1, 6-1 but lost their semis bid to Australia’s Cihan Akay and Nikita Volonski, 6-3, 6-3.
