Bears secure SBL finals slot

THE CK Bears put up a strong lead early in the game to secure their win and finals slot in Saipan Baseball League over the Ace at the Francisco Tanko Palacios Baseball Field.

The Bears took a one-game advantage with a 6-4 victory thanks to Kiku Lizama’s grand slam in the playoff opener last week.

First baseman Ray Dela Cruz rove in a run on a fielder’s choice and scored unearned run and the Bears took the upper ground in the top of the first inning.

With third baseman Mike Iguel firing an RBI double and Angel Falig driving in a run on sacrifice fly, the Aces closed in during the bottom of the first inning.

The Bears rallied in the second as second baseman AJ Lizama hit a two RBI double, right fielder Shakobe Rangamar a two RBI single and center fielder Henry Lizama an RBI single, and short stop Kiku Lizama added an RBI single to pulled the Bears ahead.

The Aces trimmed down the lead with Falig driving in two runs with a single in the bottom of the third.

The Aces tightened the defense holding the Bears runless in the rest of the game.

They needed to rally to turn the game around but despite first baseman Ben Taisacan’s two-run home run, the Bears protected their lead to secure the win, 10-7.

Meanwhile, SBL upheld the Mariners contention handing them the victory against GSM.

The Mariners put the last two innings under protest claiming an illegal player came in during their at-bat.

The game ended 14-10 in favor of GSM but the Mariners protested the presence of right fielder Tom Camacho in the leftfield.

In a meeting on Wednesday, SBL decided on favor of the Mariners.
