THE GSM sluggers took the lead 1-0 in the Saipan Baseball League playoff with the Mariners after an 8-6 win on Wednesday at the Francisco Tanko Palacios Baseball Field.

They were replaying that game last night. If GSM wins again, they will face the CK Bears in the championship. The Mariners still have to beat GSM in another game if they win.

On Wednesday, GSM rallied in the ninth inning with catcher Franco Nakamura blasting a two-run double.

Manny Sablan loaded the bases on a fielder’s choice before relief shortstop Roy Celis, right fielder Vince Cepeda and second baseman Diego Camacho drove in runs with walks.

GSM had two unearned runs in the third inning before the Mariners blanked them in five straight innings.

Starting pitcher Nate Camacho struck out seven with seven walks before Villagomez relieved him in the last part of the final inning.

GSM had tight defense as well freezing the Mariners in the first four innings. Starting pitcher Keoni had five of his 10 strike outs.

The Mariners bounced back in the fifth with designated hitter Jesse Ramon and first baseman Villagomez drove in run with walks.

GSM blanked the Mariners again from sixth to the last inning to preserve their two-run lead and win the game, 8-6.
