Kayangel upsets Imeliik to win Palau Independence Day Softball Tournament

SHORT center fielder Nizer Masayos launched a grand slam in the top of the top of the fifth inning and Kayangel made huge upset victory over Imeliik in the best-of-three championship series of the inaugural Palau Independence Day Softball Tournament at the Dandan Softball Field on Sunday.

Imeliik went undefeated in the three-weekend event held in commemoration of Palau Independence Day.

Eight teams participated in the event held for the first time and hosted by the Palau Community Association of CNMI.

Kayangel who had one lost bounced back in the playoff to face Imeliik in the championship.

Kayangel dominated Imellik, 18-7 in the first game then, finished them off with a blow up win, 23-3.

PCA-CNMI President Johnvianney Tutiy thanked everyone who participated in the event. He said they are honored to be given the opportunity to represent PCA in the tournament, and made it a successful one.

He congratulated Kayangel, Imeliik and the rest of the teams that played.

Tutiy said they will make it an annual event.
