Eagles soar to win CCOPSA coed volleyball

THE Grace Christian Academy Eagles soared in the final set to win the championship title over the Agape Christian School Torchbearers in the
Commonwealth Coalition of Private School Sports Association Co-Ed Volleyball at the Saipan International School Court on Tuesday.

Kat Saures and Hye Jin Elliot helped the Eagles pull away and secure the win in the last two decisive possessions ending the long-delayed season with an ace and a cross court dink respectively.

With Soleil Lamar emerging from her comfort zone with an ace and a couple of bumps setting powerful attacks, the Eagles nailed the Torchbearers early in the final set.

The Eagles who put up a strong lead to win the first set, 25-19 had to ward off the Torchbearers’ attempt to upset them.

With power house Bobby Bao and Wen Hao Zheng handling most of the second set, the Torchbearers forced the Eagles to two consecutive errors to get even, 25-22.

Jia Hao Yang made a couple of errors in the opening part of the second set forcing coach Cesar Libut to call a time out. But Yang redeemed himself right away delivering two consecutive attacks with a spike and bump return. He continued to deliver and helped the Eagles keep pace halfway to the end of the second set.

The prolific Juruel Magtalas’ yelps every time he received the ball worked just perfectly fine as he was able to set powerful attacks at one time by Kean Pajarillaga and at the other by Sauresd and Elliot.

The Torchbearers rallied towards the end of the second set with Bao and Zheng dominating the court and Meihui Ou contributing to a strong lead with an ace.

Elliot and Saures surged to help the Eagles widen the gap in the final set. Saures’ treacherous cross court dinks gave the Torchbearers a hard time while Elliot and Lamar kept their winning stance from the serving spot, leading to their 15-9 victory in the decision set.
