Knights 1 hand Torchbearers first loss

THE Mount Carmel School Knights of 1 avenged their younger brothers MCS 2’s loss by easing past the Agape Christian School Torchbearers 1 for a debut victory, handing their opponents their first loss in the 2018-2019 Commonwealth Coalition of Private School Association Varsity Basketball League yesterday at the Koblerville gym.

After the Knights 2 lost to ACS 1 last Tuesday, the Knights 1 came in the court ready to even the score.

They started off strong as their half court pressure defense forced the Torchbearers to commit turnover after turnover leading to the easy bucket on the other end.

Santos led the first quarter run with seven points while Johnson and Richardson supported with six points apiece aiding in their dominant 23-8 control.

However the Torchbearers were not going down without a fight.

During the second quarter their defense became tighter closing most driving lanes and forcing MCS to take ranged shots which they failed to connect.

The Knights applied the same pressure but the Torchbearers used that to their advantage taking the ball inside to draw the foul. Kobe Yang stole the show with his constant slashes inside putting him in the foul line where he connected four straight free throws.

With the help of Kaiping, Lasi Xu, Xiong and Chen, ACS erased the deficit 25-32.

The Knights then reassessed their strategy at halftime and focused more on denying any inside entry.

Their aggressive pressure on the defensive end caused a handful of turnovers on ACS’ end opening fast break opportunities for Richardson and Dela Cruz to finish for a combined 16 points regaining the double digit spread 56-37.

The Torchbearers 1 continued to fight back shutting down MCS’ scoring spree but suffered the same fate as they could not find their rhythm unable to get back within reach. With no time left, ACS showed signs of giving up as MCS 1 secured their first win 63-45.
