GCA topples ACS 55-36

THE girls of Grace Christian Academy School has shown a strong performance during last Monday’s game of the 2018-2019 Commonwealth Coalition of Private School Association Varsity Basketball League as they gave a beating to the Agape Christian School with the double digit victory 55-36 held at the ACS home court.

Jasmine Phan was GCA’s top player as she alone was enough to take on ACS scoring 18 out of the 20 points in just the first quarter to gain the lead 20-8. ACS managed to disrupt Phan’s rhythm during the second canto nearly shutting down GCA’s entire output but had trouble themselves as Yu, Xu, Tang, Garcia and Lishoalo could only contributed a bucket keeping them at a double digit reach.

Despite GCA’s struggle to build momentum, they did their best with each possession they had. Karena Torres joined the score board sinking one triple while Choi used her height under the rim to connect a shot as well to maintain the safe distance 38-27.

Both teams picked up the pace during the final quarter putting shots consecutively. ACS’ pressure defense gave Garcia and Tang fast break opportunities while Yu and Zhang also made it to the score sheet with two points each in hopes for a late-game rally.

However GCA remained in control as Phan continued to fire at will as he dribbling skills were unmatched creating space in the paint while Torres supported from beyond the arc with another triple and Choi cleaning up the mess inside to seize the victory 55-36.
