NMIS recovers with 34-11 win over SDA

THE Northern Marianas International School has made up for their recent loss against Saipan International School last Monday by taking down Seven Day Adventist in a blowout victory 34-11 during last Wednesday’s game of the 2019 Commonwealth Coalition of Private School Association Middle School Basketball League held at the SDA home court.

NMIS played with much more confident this time around as Justin Mateo heated up early taking over the opening quarter alone. Shot after shot Mateo carried the team with eight points alone.

SDA played just as well as Rechucher K. stepped up with a bucket of his own while splitting the free-throw attempt alongside Son Gp. to trail by just three points 5-8.

However in the second canto NMIS proved that teamwork was the key to victory. Eddie Valdoz and John Balgas joined the run with a combined eight points while JP Pineda and Mateo contributed a few more points to gain the distance. With their interior defense, SDA did not have a chance to get any clear looks only making two points by Rechucher K. 20-7.

NMIS continued to show their dominance during the third quarter as they left SDA completely silenced. SDA relied on Jin to penetrate inside but could not get passed NMIS’ line of defense. With each successful stop made, NMIS flourished at the other end as Valdoz connected eight points alone to extend the deficit 32-7.

Although SDA picked up the pace defensively at the final quarter, they still lacked the offensive power to pull a comeback as only Jin could put up four points. Even with successfully stopping NMIS and holding them down to just two points, they could not escape defeat 34-11.
