Lady Eagles take CCOPSA title

THE Lady Eagles of Grace Christian Academy has claimed this year’s Commonwealth Coalition of Private School Association Middle School Basketball League girls division championship title as they outplayed Agape Christian School 16-11 yesterday held at the Koblerville gym.

GCA’s aggressiveness on both ends of the court was their key to victory as they met the foul line a handful of times while holding down ACS throughout the game.

Katriel Saures and Soleil Lamar led the first quarter run for GCA as they constantly attacked the rim where they both were sent to the foul line twice. Despite both players missing their attempts, they did not end empty handed as they drilled a bucket each to gain the lead.

ACS, on the other hand, struggled to get the ball past half court but continued to show their efforts and was rewarded with one point by Jenny Lin to deny the silence 4-1.

During the second canto ACS finally found their stroke making a comeback. Lin kept her stroke in check sinking four points while Mei Cu joined in with a bucket of her own to stay alive. However so did GCA as Azuriel Fatialofa showed her confidence around the rim with three points while Lamar stayed reliable with four points to maintain control 11-7.

But after the halftime break, GCA took over. Their energy was renewed as they completely shut down ACS with their pressure defense closing out any shot opportunities while Saures and Lamar added four points together to extend the lead once more.

ACS managed to turn the tables at the final quarter holding GCA down to just one point. However they failed to capitalize as Cu and Lin could not do it alone only putting up four points with no enough time on the clock bowing down to GCA 16-11.

Scores:

GCA 17 – Soleil Lamar 8, Katriel Saures 5, Charisse Camacho 3,

ACS 11 – Jenny Lin 6, Mei Cu 5,
