ACS claims boys CCOPSA title

AGAPE Christian School has ended the 2019 Commonwealth Coalition of Private School Association Middle School Basketball League flawlessly as they remained undefeated and took down Mount Carmel School 40-17 during last Friday’s championship game held at the Koblerville gym.

ACS maintained their perfect record during the final showdown as they completely erased all hopes during the second half to take down MCS.

At first it was a fairly even match. ACS played as a team as David Zheng, Bobby Bao and Eason Tang shared a bucket each to gain the lead. However MCS relied on Earle San Nicolas and Leo Naraja’s output as they combined for five points to stay within reach 6-5.

More of the same was seen throughout the second canto as both teams exchanged answers. This team around MCS had more ball movement bringing Charles Cepeda into the mix while ACS’ Antonio Zi and Tang took over holding on to the lead 14-11.

But after the halftime break, MCS seemed to have lost all momentum as they were completely silenced. San Nicolas and Naraja failed to step up when needed while ACS flourished. Zheng, Tang, Zi and Tony Liang took advantage of MCS’ struggle finishing strong on the other end to aid in their double digit control 24-11.

Although MCS stepped it up during the final quarter with the man-to-man pressure defense, they could not stop ACS’ productivity. Tang exploded with eight points while Caleb Dai joined in with four points to hold the safe distance. MCS’ San Nicolas answered back with four points of his own while Leland DLG joined in with a bucket but eventually gave in to defeat and used the clock till time ran out handing the win to ACS 40-17.

Scores:

ACS 40 – Eason Tang 18, Antonio Zi 8, David Zheng 4, Bobby Bao 4, Caleb Dai 4, Tony Liang 2,

MCS 17 – Earle San Nicolas 9, Leo Naraja 4, Charles Cepeda 2, Leland DLG 2,
