Konqer’s first-ever Apocalypse Obstacle Course event set for Saturday

KONQER Sports is releasing the first chapter in the 2019 KONQER Apocalypse Tour this Saturday, May 25, according to KONQER chief experience officer and course designer Kaz Endo.

“We are back for our third event in Saipan and our 10th event overall, continuing to promote wellness through play,” said Endo. “To celebrate this milestone, we wanted to shake things up a bit and add the zombie apocalypse element to give our KONQER Brigade a fun and exciting new format that’s very unique in the obstacle course race (OCR) genre.

Participant check-in will start at 8 a.m. at American Memorial Park with the 5K zombie chase (race) beginning promptly at 9 a.m. All participants must bring a photo ID and sign a waive prior to starting the race. Minors 17 and under must have a parent or legal guardian sign their waiver to participate. Race day registration will be available for $100 (cash only).

The event starts with a 5K zombie chase from American Memorial Park, through Inos Peace Park and ending at the lower MIHA housing area adjacent to Garapan Elementary, where participants will be queued to start the obstacle portion of the event. Spectators are welcome to attend, provided they stay outside of the course.

“Seeing your friends and family battle zombies while also attempting to traverse the obstacle course will be something you won’t want to miss,” said Endo. “We encourage you to bring a chair, umbrella, a water bottle and get comfortable as you watch how Saipan handles the zombie apocalypse!”

This year, KONQER offered free entries to children 17 and under, as part of their mission to get kids and families to enjoy an active lifestyle together.

“It’s all about creating events that give people an opportunity to just play, which is something that we tend to lose sight of as adults,” said Endo. “And we’ve been very fortunate to have our generous sponsors and partners alongside us in this mission to allow kids to participate free of charge. We finally got to do it this year!”

Event volunteers also benefit from their efforts, as KONQER offers donations to multiple local organizations seeking to raise funds for their activities, including the Marianas High School JROTC, National Honor Society, Wave Club, Class of 2019, Northern Marianas Sports Association and more.

“These events don’t happen without our Volunteer Brigade, and we are very grateful to have a great group of volunteers that put in the hours to make it a great event for participants,” said KONQER president Kelli Wedd. “We encourage all KONQER participants to thank a volunteer for their efforts this Saturday!”

For participants, full event rules are available at KONQERSports.com, and any additional questions may be directed to support@konqersports.com.
