MHS, KHS take PSS outrigger titles

THE ladies of Marianas High School and the men of Kagman High School have stamped their name in the perpetual trophy of the 2019 Public School System High School Boys and Girls Outrigger Canoe held at the Kilili Beach.

MHS dominated the girls division as they collected a total of 76 points to grasp the first place title over Kagman High School and Saipan Southern High School.

In the 1,000m race MHS showcased their teamwork as they pushed through the waters well ahead of the competition. In two heats the girls came in first scoring 10 and 15 while sfalling short in the third heat for 12 points for a total of 37.

KHS had a slower start scoring only six points in the first two heats. However they made a quick recovery during the third and final set pushing past MS for 20 points to hold a total of 32 points for second place.

SSHS gave it their all but settled for third place scoring a total of eight points.

As for the 500m MHS and KHS went head to head.

Both schools ended in a tie in the first heat of the shorter race putting up eight points. But then MHS upped the tempo in heat 2 to grab the 10 points for the lead while KHS settled for six points. KHS tried to get back within reach but only managed to tie up with MHS once again with 16 points each. With that, MHS secured the first place seat once again with a total of 34 points while KHS followed behind with 30 points while SSHS held 8 points in the end for third place.

In the final long distance race MHS crossed the finish line first for the 5-point lead to hold an overall 76 points while KHS ending with 65 and SSHS with 17.

In the boys division KHS was the team to beat as they excelled in all aspects to tally a whopping 81 points for the first place title.

Despite a falling behind in the first heat of the 1,000m race to MHS, KHS bounced back with a 10-point finish and exploded during the final heat for 20 points to hold a total of 36 points.

MHS settled for second place scoring eight, six and 12 points for a total of 26 points. SSHS came in third with 10 points to end the race.

KHS continued to their reign as they topped all three heats. With their 10, 10 and 20-point results they combined for a total of 40 points to secure the first place seat

MHS held a steady performance grasping second place with 20 points while SSHS followed behind with 12 points for third.

KHS finished off the finale long distance event with five points to hold a total of 81 points while MHS took second place with 49 points while SSHS ended at third place with 23 points.
