Lee, Nakamura top 2nd Marianas Classic

JUNIOR golfer Dong Young Edward Lee beat Joe Kamikaze Camacho by one stroke in the back nine to top the low gross tour of the 2nd Marianas Classic Golf Tournament at the LaoLao Bay Golf & Resort on Saturday.

Over a hundred local and visiting golfers played in this year’s tournament that will benefit Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Mariana Islands Nature Alliance and the Autism Awareness program.

The event is hosted jointly by IT&E, IP&E and Bank of Guam that BOG President Kin Cook said, “share similar values and commitment to the community.”

Both finishing 38, Lee and Camacho were far behind Sebastian Camacho in the front nine, beating them by five strokes.

Sebastian double-bogeyed in Hole No. 11 and lagged to a 4-over par 40 in the back nine while Lee hit an eagle in Hole No. 14 to beat Kamikaze by one stroke.

Lee shot at par 72 to claim the 2019 title while Kamikaze and Sebastian finished with a 1-over par 73.

In the lowest net game, Harry Nakamura made a comeback shooting the longest drive at 285 yards to finish with a net of 69.40 and win the title.

Sung Soo Lim shot a 70 to take the second place and Diego T. Benavente, 70.20 for the third place.

Also making it to the Top 6 in the low net tour were Fred Camacho who shot 70.60; Rick Kautz, 71.20 and Brett Salas, 71.60.

In the women’s low gross tour, Jeon Me Ae won the first place with a 78 and Hyun Son, 84 for the second place.

In the women’s low net, Chang Hee Yoo shot a 72 to take the first place and Seo Yeon Jeon, 74.20 for the second place.

Andrei Tenorio hit the accurate drive.

Shooting nearest to the pin were Tars Olopai in Hole No. 4; Dung Tenorio in Hole No. 11; Mr. Cho in Hole No. 6 and Ned Norita in Hole No. 15.
