Hyatt Regency Saipan donates $68,000 to local beneficiaries

EVERY year Hyatt Regency Saipan hosts their Charity Golf Classic Tournament where they raise money for their selected five beneficiaries which were given yesterday at Giovanni’s.

Aside from Hyatt’s primary beneficiary Make-A-Wish Foundation Guam-CNMI, four additional local non-profit organizations were selected for the 23rd year where they were gifted $12,000 each. After meeting the criteria, it was 4H Marianas, Isla Montessori, NMI Rollers Basketball Association and 500 Sails.

“The timing of this was really good. This is just what we needed. We are here to improve the health of the community, to hold on to the culture and further develop some lost culture. And like Hyatt, we love Saipan and the day Emma and I got here five and a half years ago we realize how important Hyatt is.” shared 500 Sails Executive Director Peter Perez upon receiving the $12,000 check.

NMI Rollers Basketball Association President Juan Dela Cruz also made a few remarks. “This is an exciting moment for us. We have about 97 kids in our organization and we are kicking off our new age group of 8 years-old to 10 years-old with the help this gift. This is a great opportunity for us to fix our gym in Koblerville which sustained damaged from Super Typhoon Yutu. We can now make some improvements which will benefit the youths.” He said.

“We are overwhelmed with generosity and support. We are going to send some kids to school. Hyatt has provided us with funding for tuitions and scholarships assistance for children that may have not been able to experience Montessori education like we are providing. I’m overwhelmed with gratitude. We just opened our doors last year.” exclaimed Co-Head of Schools & Lower Elementary Guide Susan Book. Isla Montessori has already collaborated with 4H Marianas and 500 Sails.

4H Marianas President Alyssa Attao was the last to share her thanks. “We like to give our biggest thanks. Our overall goal is to empower the youth. This program really helps you build your leadership skills and make you feel more empowered and I’m really grateful that Hyatt sees that and believes in us.” Attao said.

As for their main beneficiary, Make-A-Wish Foundation was given $20,000. “That helps serve CNMI’s Make-A-Wish children and I can’t over emphasize enough their message that we have to share with the community.” shared Hyatt Regency Saipan Assistant Marketing Communications Manager Claudine Camacho during an interview with Marianas Variety.

This is the highest amount that Hyatt’s annual golf charity classic has produced. “Even after the devastation of Super Typhoon Yutu, we were worried about generating enough proceeds but we were very positive that regardless the community will come together.” stated Camacho. The event had over a hundred sponsors that generously donated cash and prizes to aid in their proceeds towards the selected beneficiaries.

“So the success of the golf tournament is a vital point every year for our team. Everyone puts in their share, their time; it’s a labor of love that produces money that we are able to give back to the community. We look forward for next year’s golf tournament which will be held on April 17, 2020.”
