GSM rallies past Blue Jays 13-10

GSM had gathered their second win of the 2019 Saipan Baseball League thanks to the late-game performance at the 6th inning gaining three runs to slip past Blue Jays 13-10 last Saturday held at the Francisco “Tanko” Palacios baseball field.

GSM established control right from the opening inning bringing home four consecutive runs. Even with Blue Jays gaining the out at the first bat attempt, they failed to maintain efficiency as their errors created an opening for GSM to strike. Due to the pitchers inability to throw inside the box, three batters were given the free trip filling the bases. Jerome DLS then drew first blood earning the single RBI as he brought home Lorenzo S. while Dennis C, Byron K. and Jerome DLS himself followed up with three straight runs off errors for the 4-0 spread.

Blue Jays did not go quiet as they answered back with two runs to stay within reach. AJ Evangelista wreaked havoc on his first at bat as he reached third base off errors while Josenio Alvarez followed up at first base after getting hit by the pitcher. But it was not until Jesse Mesa’s turn at the batter’s box where his sacrifice play did not go unrewarded letting Evangelista slip in for their first run of the day while Alvarez reached home off an error to reduce the gap 4-2 before GMS could get the three outs needed to turnover to the second inning.

GSM tried to regain the distance but only made one run thanks to Lorenzo S.’ shot. Although he was tagged out at first base, he still earned the single RBI as Franco N. managed to make it home for the single run.

Luckily for Blue Jays, they found their footing at the bottom of the second to put the game at its first deadlock. Auriel Mendiola and Jesse Mesa highlighted their offense with an RBI each adding a total of three runs to tie the game at an even 5-5. Blue Jays then tasted their first lead of the game as they kept GSM silent at the third inning while they delivered with three more runs with Alvarez gaining two RBIs and James Salalila with one RBI 8-5.

Despite Blue Jays’ efforts they could not stop GSM from cooking up a comeback. After scoring two runs at the 4th to reduce the gap, GSM suddenly lost their touch as they committed a handful of errors at the 5th and 6th inning handing GSM the opportunity to rally with six runs to take back control 13-8.

Blue Jays tried to stay alive but only earned two runs at the 5th inning before going completely blank unable to stay relevant and settling for the defeat 13-10.

The CK Bear remain undefeated as they collected their third straight win over Aces 8-2.
