Commissioner Clint Albert, co-commissioner Elias Rangamar, head of referees Richard Baba, Atkins Kroll Saipan vice president and general manager Clark Boswell, and MILB president Lawrence Camacho spoke with reporters and other members of the public, and fielded questions.

“Just play a fair game and follow the rules,” Camacho said.

Baba agreed “We need to obey the rules,” he added. “Your judgment may be different from ours.”

Albert said referees will wear a GoPro camera during a game.

The league, he added, aims to raise the competitiveness level of young basketball players. No fees will be collected from the teams, thanks to Atkins Kroll Saipan’s sponsorship, Albert said.

The 10 teams competing in the tournament are AK Toyota Wheelers, Aqua Resort Club Ballers, Caravan Marauders, IT&E Explorers, Mystique BBQ Grillers, Saipan Vegas Aces, The Game Elite, Bridge Capital All Stars, Tan Holdings Stingray, and MS Villagomez Dream Team.

The opening night ceremony will be held on Aug. 17, Saturday, at the Marianas High School gym starting at 5:30 p.m. The teams will draw lots to determine the match ups. Coolers and umbrellas will be given away to members of the public. The guest performers are the Saipan Music and Dance Studio members. Moreover, during halftime, MILB Commissioner Clint Albert will choose three people from stands for a chance to shoot a three-pointer and win a prize.

The first game will begin by 6 p.m., and the second will start at 7:30 p.m.

“Good luck everybody, and may the best team win,” Albert said.
