IT&E Off-Road Duathlon set for Aug. 31

THE 2019 IT&E Off-Road Duathlon and Trail Run will be held in Marpi on Saturday, Aug. 31, starting at 6 a.m.

The first leg will be a 6KM trail run from the Last Command Post to Dumping, Banzai Trail, Banzai Cliff with the finish line back at the Last Command Post. The winners will receive awards and medals.

The second leg will be a 20KM MTB from the Last Command Post to Ayuyu Dr., FEBC, Binadu Dr., Million Gallon, As Matuis, Kalabera Road, Santa Klaus, Banzai Trail, Banzai Cliff and then back to the Last Command Post. The top runners will receive awards and medals.

The third leg will be a 2.5KM paved run from the Last Command Post to the Hair Pin Curve (Siko), and back to the Last Command Post. The cut-off time is three hours.

Triathlon Association of the CNMI’s Ricky Castro, the event director, said the Santa Klaus and Banzai Trails are now open for bikers and off-road runners who want to observe those trails before the actual race.

Almost 50 people have already registered so far, Castro said. “We’re kind of upbeat about the number.”

The prizes include free Hell of the Marianas entries and gifts from sponsors.

The registration fee is $10 per individual online and $20 for a team of two members online. The fee includes a raffle ticket. The late registration fee is $15 per individual, and $30 for a team. Payment for late registration can be made at the race venue.

Registration will end on Aug. 29, Thursday, 5 p.m.
