MJD Warriors, Predators, Wizards advance to quarterfinals

DREW’s MJD Warriors, the 9Eleven Predators, and Brannon’s DECM Wizards eliminated their respective opponents Thursday in the Tuesday Division of the 2019 SBA Budweiser Open 8-Ball League.

The MJD Warriors had a tough battle but managed to slip by Sands Team SCS, 9-7.

Team SCS broke the ice as teammates Aaron Velasco and Jerry Tiu made it pass Mervin Sahagun and Rey Pinangay to take the first win of the night. The MJD Warriors answered with Jerry Soriano and Cecilio Bisana claiming the second round to tie the match 1-1. The MJD Warriors then took over as their one-on-one skills bested Team SCS with Roel Barretto joining in the fray, pulling a 3-1 run followed by a clean two-win sweep to gain the lead, 6-2.

Team SCS went for an all-out attack but only managed a 3-1 run. The team was stopped in its tracks when Soriano and Barretto bagged the final two victories needed by the Warriors to take the win, 9-7.

The 9Eleven Predators joined the winner’s circle by bringing down Drew’s IT&E Homeboyz, 9-6.

The Predators’ teamwork was their biggest strength as they swept the first two partners matches. The Homeboyz retaliated in the singles action but only managed to split the rounds which was not enough to stay alive, losing 6-9 to the Predators.

Brannon’s DECM Wizards were the last team to move past the first round of playoffs by silencing the Drew’s Titans, 9-3. The Wizards collected three consecutive wins before the Titans could stop the bleeding. The Titans notched two more wins in the second Singles 8-Ball match but could not escape the inevitable. The Wizards won, 9-3.
