Max’s Restaurant equaled IT&E’s performance in the first quarter. Ogie Herrera was the first to draw blood while Sonny Lerio and Rotap contributed two buckets each to stay within reach. IT&E was given some room to breathe when Dan Chan came off the bench and found his range from behind the three-point line, sinking three consecutive shots with Reymark Castro adding the final touch to take the lead 22-17.

Max’s Restaurant continued to put up a fight with Paynor and Patrick Salalila leading the charge, but Castro matched their output in the second quarter with six points to maintain control. IT&E pushed the gap even further in the third canto as Castro added eight more points for a 60-46 spread.

Max’s Restaurant tried to reduce the damage through more offense, but it was Lerio alone who could maintain efficiency as IT&E’s Ivan De Vero and Brana added the finishing touches to bag the win, 79-61.

Tsingtao Boyz 78, Connie’s BBQ 70

The Tsingtao Boyz had a tougher battle but they bounced back with a rally in the second quarter to steal the win from the top contender, Connie’s BBQ, 78-70.

Connie’s BBQ played aggressively at first with Joel Danao, Esmores and Dayao striking from the front line for a 20-18 lead.

However, in the second canto they completely lost control. Their missed shots allowed the Tsingtao Boyz to stage a comeback. Ed Pangelinan highlighted two and-one plays with Gerald Rivera right by his side to put in 10 points and gain a comfortable nine-point distance.

Connie’s BBQ returned in the third quarter, reducing the gap within just one possession, but still had to work for it as the Tsingtao Boyz played smart to stay afloat. Connie’s BBQ gave one final push in the final quarter with Bongalan contributing 13 points alone. The team resorted to stop-the-clock fouls but these did not work in their favor as Ramsa Tenepere and Rivera shot a high percentage from the free-throw line to keep control and secure the win for IT&E, 78-70.
