Ol’Aces Alumni Tournament kicks off tomorrow

IN celebration of Ol’Aces Club’s 45th year, it will host the Ol’Aces Alumni Basketball Tournament starting this Thursday, Sept. 12, at the Ada gym, Oleai sports complex. Twenty-one teams have confirmed their participation in the month-long event which will also serve as a fundraiser for the Ol’Aces’ 18-under girls and 14-under boys who are competing in the annual Thanksgiving Hoopfest on Guam this November.

The Ol’Aces tournament has three divisions: 15-Under Co-ed Latte; Open Classic; and 4x4 Legends. There will be no referees, and players will call their own fouls and violations.

The opening game will start at 5 p.m. in the U15 Co-ed Division with Ol’Aces Pa’Keyu going up against Ol’Aces Pa’Fao in the north court while Ol’Aces Anemi will face Basa Clan in the south court.

The Open Classic will follow with the Kobler Boyz butting heads with the Oleai Boyz at 6 p.m.

The last game starts at 7:30 p.m.

About Ol’Aces

The Ol’Aces Alumni Summer League was created “with a vision to continue the rich tradition of basketball competition for the Ol’Aces family and its community. The Ol’Aces Club is made up of volunteer coaches, volunteer assistant coaches, a volunteer tournament coordinator and volunteer helpers.”

According to the Ol’Aces Club, “there is an untapped desire among many players, to continue to play both at a competitive and recreational levels. The alumni tournament seeks to fill that void of sedentary life style while providing an outlet for our members and the community to stay active and fit.”

At all times, the Ol’Aces Club expects all people attending any of the activities for the tournament to follow basic standards of conduct in order to support the following goals:

  • • To teach the players teamwork and sportsmanship.
  • • To ensure that the players have fun.
  • • To teach the fundamentals of the game of basketball.
  • • To develop camaraderie among all players.
