KONQER Rota to debut Saturday

(Press Release) — KONQER will host its first-ever Enduro Invitational Championship Obstacle Course Race or OCR on Rota this Saturday, and the general public is invited to attend and cheer on the athletes as they take on the most difficult course in KONQER history.

“Not only is this Enduro championship event a first for KONQER and the first event of its kind for Rota — I have not seen a course like this anywhere in the world,” said chief experience officer Kaz Endo. “We invite everyone to join us at Tweaksberry Park / West Harbor / Small Island to watch these elite athletes take on the obstacle course, and enjoy the course once we open it to the public after the championship.”

The Enduro championship event starts at 9 a.m. with a 2.4-mile swim, then transitions into a 16-kilometer run, and finishes with a trail challenge through the Wedding Cake conservation area and metal structure ninja-styled obstacles at Small Island.

“We are making history for KONQER, but the entire Micronesia/Marianas with Rota hosting the first-ever OCR championship of any kind. We are very proud of this fact and what better place to hold it than a small island with a big heart?” said Endo.

After the championship concludes, the obstacle course portion of the course will be open to the public to enjoy free of charge, and liability waivers must be signed. Those who participate will need to bring a photo ID with them, and all participants 18 and under must have a parent or guardian sign the waiver form on their behalf.

“We will have games for kids, giveaways and plenty of obstacles for everyone to try out,” said Endo. “The course will stay open until 5 p.m., and we encourage everyone to join us until then and then head over to the Coconut Festival for some great food, fun and the KONQER award presentation.”

The KONQER team would like to extend special thanks to the Bureau of Environmental & Coastal Quality, the Division of Fish & Wildlife, Coastal Resources Management, the Commonwealth Ports Authority, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Department of Public Safety0Boating Safety Unit, the Department of Fire & Emergency Management Services, the Rota Mayor’s Office and the countless other local leaders for their support and cooperation to host this event.
