CNMI Weightlifting Federation to select student for special training in New Caledonia

THE CNMI Weightlifting Federation is seeking a student participant for the Oceania Talent Identification Program or OTIP, which aims to create interest in weightlifting among Pacific Island youth.

John Davis, federation president, said he will personally select a CNMI student, 11 to 17 years old, to participate in this year’s OTIP.

He said the student doesn’t have to be “perfect” but he or she will be selected based on his or her lifting ability, coordination, and form.

The selected student will attend a special training camp at the Oceania Weightlifting Institute in New Caledonia from Dec. 1 to 8.

Besides a free plane ticket, the student will also receive free meals and accommodation as well as complimentary internal transportation and an Oceania Institute T-shirt in New Caledonia.

Davis said he has communicated with public school principals about the training program, adding that anyone in the private schools who may be interested should contact him as soon as possible at 789-9211.

OTIP is organized by the Oceania Weightlifting Federation, funded by the International Weightlifting Federation, and supported by Eleiko, which manufactures weightlifting equipment.
