“I feel great, this sports motivates me [to be fit],” she said. “If you want to be fit, set a goal and achieve it. It’s not impossible.”

Larina competed this year against a strong contender, Peachy Quitugua.

For her part, Jordan Monderen said it was her first time to join the competition, adding that she felt “awesome” when she won the top award in the figure category.

“During the prejudging, I watched the replay and I was like, ‘It’s close.’ So it was really a shock when they called me first place.... Prejudging was a little rough for me. I didn’t know the rules and stuff like that. So I actually committed a few mistakes. But then coming into the night, it was better because everything ran smoothly.”

Monderen said training was fun but as the day of the competition approached, it became difficult for her, especially because she enjoys eating sweets.

She competed with Jenny Pineda in the figure category.
