GCA ‘3-peats’ as volleyball champion

GRACE Christian Academy won the girls volleyball championship for the third time in a row.

On Saturday, GCA battled the equally strong Saipan International School team for the title at the Marianas High School gym.

In the first set, the GCA Eagles set their eyes on the prize as they dominated with a score of 25-20

In the second set, GCA remained aggressive while the SIS Geckos were still looking for their rhythm.

SIS decided to field Cindy Kim, one of the school’s top players, who was injured during the semi-final game against Marianas High School.

Against the Eagles, Kim showed her determination to win, but SIS committed several errors while Soleil Lemar and Katriel Suares led GCA to a convincing victory in the second set, 25-8, to win the championship.

Caesar Libut, head coach of GCA’s girls volleyball team, said it was an “amazing game” for the Eagles despite losing their best spiker, Hye Jin Elliot, who wasn’t able to play on Saturday due to a knee injury.

“But the rest of the girls stepped up their game and dedicated it to Elliot,” he said as he praised the Eagles’ discipline and dedication.

“This third championship is the product of their hard work. The girls are amazing. I told them that win or lose I would be proud of them, but today they made history because this is also the first time that our team was undefeated.”
