Korean professional baseball teams eye local players

SOUTH Korean professional baseball teams are interested in recruiting  players from Saipan, Mayor Donald G. Flores said.

“We encourage our local players here to work hard because those professional teams are scouting for players,” he added.

The mayor has been communicating with the teams even before he submitted his proposed project to build four professional baseball fields on island.

Flores said the Korean teams are also considering conducting training sessions for local players.

Through proper training and consistent support, the teams are hoping to find potential professional players in the CNMI, he added.

He said baseball is the island’s favorite sport and developing good players to compete in professional leagues is possible.

Flores said he will pursue his plan to build at least one professional baseball field in Marpi and has already requested funding assistance from the federal government.

“We are going forward with the plan,” he added.

Flores said his office is now finalizing a new design different from what he previously submitted to the Department of Public Lands.
