NMASA gets $30K for 2014 Micronesian Games

THE Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation yesterday approved a local measure that includes $30,000 for the Northern Marianas Sports Association that will send the NMI delegation to the 2014 Micronesian Games in Pohnpei.

The money will be used mostly for airfare.

All 18 members voted yes to House Local Bill 18-37 that re-appropriates unused funds from previous local allotments.

Senate President Ralph DLG Torres, R-Saipan and Rep. Janet U. Maratita, IR-Saipan were absent.

Authored by SNILD Chairman Ramon A. Tebuteb, Ind.-Saipan, the local bill appropriates $30,000 for the 2014 Micronesian Games and $3,000 for the 2014 Spear Fishing Derby.

NMSA President Michael White, Saipan Little League President Tony Rogolofoi and NMI Athletic Association’s Kurt Barnes were in the House gallery to witness the passage of the local measure.

Prior to the session NMSA informed the SNILD that 100 members of the NMI delegation will go.

They will compete in the athletics events, baseball, basketball, canoe, swimming, weightlifting and spearfishing.
