Guam’s bats erupt in hit fest to win baseball gold in Micro Games

HAGÅTÑA — After splitting their first two games in the Micronesian Games, Guam's baseball team faced the CNMI for the third time, this time in Pohnpei it was in the gold medal game.

Both teams had a combined total of 29 hits with 20 runs scored, as Guam went on to win the game 14-6 to capture the gold.

Guam got on the scoreboard first when they score five runs in the top of the second inning.

The CNMI came back in the bottom of the inning and scored two runs of their own to cut Guam's lead to 5-2.

In the top of the third inning, Guam answered back by getting three more runs and then the team tacked on another run in the 5th to make the score 9-2.  

The CNMI was able to get a run back in the bottom of the seventh, but Guam was able to score one more run in the top of the 8th.

The CNMI was able to cut their deficit by scoring three more runs to make game 10-6.

But Guam scored four more runs in the top of the 9th to make the final score 14-6.

Team Guam was led by Rico Castro who had four hits with two RBIs. Ryan Martinez and Shon Muna Jr. each had three hits while Brian Balajadia and Matthew Muna each knocked in two runs.
