GSM Babes rout Sakudi in Belau women’s opener

THE GSM Babes took an early revenge at defending champions Sakudi beating them 7-1 in the opening game of the Belau Amateur Softball Association Women’s League at the Dandan Ball Field yesterday.

The long-time rivals faced off in the opening game as the Belau softball resumed actions following a two-weekend halt in observance of the Easter season.

The Babes and the Sakudi are not exactly the same teams as they were during the two-year saga. The 2016 Sakudi is now raising a new breed of lady sluggers while the Babes have acquired a couple of the tough players of the last season.

Edilyn Benjamin who has been the Babes’ pitcher for the past seasons took the mound again yesterday to help earn their early victory. She allowed only one run, had four strike outs and gave up eight hits with one walk.

The GSM Babes had back-to-back RBIs, from catcher Geri Dela Cruz and right fielder Maelyn Naputi who hit one RBI single apiece to put up the lead in the second inning.

Melisa Benjamin and Janica Lizama doubled before Kuki Pangelinan drove them in for a two RBI single to widen the gap.

The GSM Babes fielders tightened their defense to help keep Sakudi scoreless in consecutive innings.

Meanwhile, the GSM Babes continued their back-to-back base hits to secure their victory.

Tani Masga and Edilyn Benjamin singled before Naputi blasted a two RBI double and the GMS Babes never looked back.
