WSTCO stops Builders, 61-52 in JEM caging

WSTCO and Docomo completed the opening day of the 2017 JEM Company LTD. Customer Appreciation Basketball Tournament with victory over their respective opponents last Sunday held at the Tan Siu Lin Sports Complex.

WSTCO’s diverse lineup was their key to success as each player played a critical role to maintain control of the game.

During the first half Kevin Rejano and Isagani Cortez led the squad. They kept the ball moving to find open shots around the rim pushing a safe distance 17-10.

The Konstract Builders stayed close by keeping the deficit within single digits thanks to Ronald Bernardo’s reliable output. But as soon as they got close, WSTCO regained momentum with Raymond Tolentino and Dan Iliahi’s combined 12 points to lead 36-28.

During the second half the Konstract Builders picked up performance on the defense end cutting down WSTCO’s run getting as close as seven points. But it was WSTCO’s Iliahi that secured the win draining the last two buckets to put the game out of reach 61-52.

Docomo 74, Triple J 56

Docomo joined in the winners’ circle outscoring Triple J by a blowout 74-56.

It was the work of Jason Hayes putting up shot after shot leading Docomo to the big win. As soon as the ball came to his possession, he was able to finish strong.

Docomo started off strong with Hayes in the frontline firing four consecutive shots to aid in their nine-point lead 20-11 in the first quarter.

Triple J tried to make up their performance at the second canto as Derek Olopai and Bobby Gelt started to get into rhythm but Hayes’ continued to wreak havoc brining eight more points to keep the distance.

Olopai remained hot dropping two triples to try and cut down the lead while successfully shutting down Hayes to two points during the third quarter but big man Melvin Manibusan and Conrad Sablan stepped up when needed to tighten the lead 53-40.

Triple J pulled out all their strings at the final quarter as Olopai continued to make his shots alongside Aris Oris but Hayes and Manibusan could not be stopped answering each make to grasp the win 74-56.
