THE Mount Carmel School Lady Knights prolonged their supremacy earning their third straight championship title in the 2016-2017 Commonwealth Coalition of Private School Sports Association Middle School Basketball League girls division defeating Seventh Day Adventist 17-10 last Monday held at the Gilbert C. Ada Gym.
The MCS Knights’ aggressive efforts on the defensive end closed out all the lanes denying SDA any chance. Their strategy worked like a charm as they forced a handful of turnovers as they gave SDA’s ball handlers no room to breathe leaving them completely scoreless.
But SDA geared up for a stronger offense until they brought the ball down past half court and put up several attempted shots but only connected two buckets to take control 4-0.
More of the same was seen throughout the second canto as MCS Knights pressure defense remained effective.
Kaia Travilla and Gia Hemley took advantage of each successful steal finishing with two points each to extend the deficit alongside Fiona Bucalig’s consistency carrying the team with six points.
SDA finally snapped out of the cold spell during the third quarter.
They had better ball movement and took more shots putting up all 10 points.
But even with SDA’s sudden burst, the MCS Knights regained their defensive output at the final quarter leaving them scoreless once again while draining a couple more shots to secure the win and the championship title 17-10.
