FOR competitive swimmers and enthusiasts alike, this week is bound to be one of pure excitement.
Saipan Swim Club hosts its 38th Annual International Swim Meet from Thursday, March 23 to Saturday, March 25 and its Ocean Swim on Sunday March 26.
The swim meet will take place at the Kan Pacific Pool in Marpi.
As is regulation standard for “long course”, all swim events of the 50 to 1,500-meter variety will be held in the location’s 50-meter, eight-lane lap pool.
On Thursday, warm-ups run from 2:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m., with races beginning at 4 p.m.
On Friday, warm-up time spans from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., with races starting at 1:15 p.m.
A welcoming banquet for participants and supporters is scheduled to follow at the conclusion of the Friday session.
Finally, on Saturday, AM warm-ups take place from 7:15 a.m. to 8:15 a.m., followed by an opening ceremony procession at 8:30 a.m.
Races begin promptly at 9 a.m. For the PM session, warm-ups are from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m., with the final races scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
The ocean swim, which takes place on Sunday, will be held at the lagoon directly in front of World Resort Hotel in Susupe. The full course is triangular shaped and 1,275-meters in total distance with a maximum depth of eight feet.
Registration for ocean swim participants is from 7 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. with a go time at 8 a.m. The event order, according to age division will be 9 to 10, 8 and under, 11 to 12, and 13 and up.
The eight-and-under course totals 0.6-kilometers; the 9 to 10, 1-kilometer; the 11 to 12, 1.3-kilometers; the 13 to 14, 3.9-kilometers; the 15 to 25, 5.2-kilometers; and the open division, comprised of 1.3-kilometer and 2.6-kilometer variants.
At the conclusion of the ocean swim, the Awards Banquet for the entire event shall be held. It is scheduled to take place at approximately 11:30 on the final day, at beachside.
The 38th Meet and Ocean Swim is headed up by event coordinator and SSC Coach Jacoby Winkfield, Northern Mariana Islands Swimming Federation Secretary Carol-Lynn Calobong-Pierce and Meet Director Richard Villagomez. Calobong-Pierce will be serving as Meet Referee.
