ULTIMATE Fighting Championship veteran Tae Hyun “The Korean Cowboy” Bang was tentatively scheduled to arrive on island this week for a brief period of time but Variety was told the trip has been postponed indefinitely, until further notice.
Courtesy of a message from Korean Top Team gym co-owner, Young Nam “The Hippo” Gu, Bang’s Saipan correspondents confirmed that the cancellation was made.
As of 2017, Bang is the top ranked lightweight Korean fighter currently contracted to the UFC. He sports a 2-3 record with the promotion since signing with them three years ago and an 18-10 career record overall.
The Seoul native’s list of known adversaries includes such greats aslegendary former Pride FC champion Takanori “The Fireball Kid” Gomi, top UFC welterweight contender Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal and the first Guam fighter to fight in the UFC, Jon “Super Saiyan” Tuck. Bang’sopponent for his next UFC appearance is still yet to be determined.
Bang expressed great interest in training at the CNMI’s premier mixed martial arts gym, Trench Tech, had his Saipan trip materialized.
