F. Marinos narrowly wins title vs. Amarda in U17 Girls

THE F. Marinos claimed the championship title in the U17 Girls Division of the 2017 Youth Summer Futsal Tournament by a narrow margin as they denied the Marianas Health Armada from sending the game into a shootout 2-1 during last Saturday’s finals held at the Tan Siu Lin Sports Complex.

It was a nail-biting game as both teams were equally matched.

Marianas Health Armada’s thirst for the title was seen as they played at a high tempo.

Jerlyn Castillo and Britany Wally were the aggressors constantly pushing forward to create a handful of attempted shots but just could not get passed Carla Ballesteros’ quick hands as she blocked every single try to keep F. Marinos in the game.

F. Marinos played at a much slowly pace as Bernadette Horey and Grace Choi controlled the back court with carefully picked out passes to get passed Marianas Health Armada’s line of defense.

Lyka Sally and Guine Borja led the frontline with several attacks of their own but shared the same fate as they could not finish keeping the first half scoreless.

During the second half F. Marinos started to build momentum. Although Marianas Health Armada was able to hold down top scorer Borja, Sally and Horey stepped up as added arsenal to switch to a more aggressive pace.

Their relentless efforts finally paid off as they eventually broke through Marianas Health Armada’s defense not once, but twice, with Sally and Horey contributing a goal each to gain control.

Despite falling behind, Marianas Health Armada never gave in and was finally awarded as Britany Wally connected one after several attempts to keep them within reach.

They tried to force the draw with what little time they had left, but F. Marinos stayed on their toes disrupting every play they cooked up to keep them at bay until time expired taking the win 2-1 and the U17 Girls championship trophy.
