Team Angel tops Sufa softball fundraiser

TEAM Angel yesterday beat the CK Bears to win the 2017 Sufa Softball Association’s Fundraiser Tournament at the Capital Hill Softball Field.

Sufa President Joe Saures said this year’s event went well with eight teams battling for the crown in two days.

The tournament that started on Saturday, Saures said was to raise funds for the team that will play in the Annual CNMI Labor Day Softball Tournament that will be held next month in Los Angeles.

Each player will shoulder cost for their own plane ticket. The funds raised in the tournament and in raffle draws will be used for other expenses.

Since 2008, Sufa has been leading the CNMI softball community in preparing a team for the Labor Day softball tournament, an event that has been a long standing tradition of the CNMI people who now lives in the main land.

Sufa Vice president Tom Camacho is they want to make sure that every year a team from the CNMI participates in the annual tournament that bring to together CNMI people in the states.

“So every year Sufa fundraises for the trip but we also recruit players who live in there,” he said.

In yesterday’s championship round, Kimo Angailen had three runs while Jay had two to lead Team Angel against the CK Bears.

Keoni had run-scoring double to help the Ck Bears in their losing effort.

The CK Bears clinched the finals by outscoring Calikano, 13-12 while Team Angel A-Kark, 18-17 to make it to the finals.
