Lieto stops Blue Jays, Sunumai hands Falcons 2nd win

CATCHER Barry Sunumai gauged the in-field defense just right enough to score the winning run to hand the Falcons their second victory in Tuesday’s game of Saipan Baseball’s Summer/Fall League against the Blue Jays at the Francisco Tanko Palacios Baseball Field.

After three scoreless innings, center fielder Davy Matagolai doubled followed by catcher Quimson Blas’ single.

Matagolai took the home plate for a one-run lead on a wild pitch before Blas added another run on a passed ball and the Blue Jays had the upper hand before the two outs.

Short stop Frankie Lieto walked and made his way to the scoring spot then, slashed the Jays’ lead on defender’s error.

Lieto took over the mound and nailed the Blue Jays to two runs by shutting them out in the fifth and seventh inning, and totaled 10 strike outs for the night.

Center fielder Frankie Lifoifoi walked, then, following Sunumai’s single, relieve third baseman Ian Norita hit an RBI single to tie the ball game.

Sunumai’s sprint to the home plate secured the win, 3-2.
