50km Bike for Life to benefit CCA

(Press Release) — The annual 50Km “Bike for Life” is set for Saturday, October 21st, at the Pacific Islands Club Saipan.

The Road and Mountain Bike race around the beautiful island of Saipan was started in 2011, as a practice run for the Hell of the Marianas Bike Race. The HOM is now coordinated by the Marianas Visitors Authority.

The Bike for Life registration is now open and will close on October 19th. Check in for the 50KM will begin at 5:30 am on October 21st. The race go time is 6:00am starting at the PIC, then towards the AMP along Beach Road. The route takes a right AMP, left at Middle Road, straight onto Banzai. At Banzai, bikers will be directed to make a U-turn and follow the same route back to PIC.

Sponsors for the Bike for Life include PTC Pepsi and Monster Energy Drink, Bridge Capital LLC., Hell of the Marianas Century Cycle, Northern Mariana Islands Cycling Federation. As in previous years, the proceeds from the event will benefit the Commonwealth Cancer Association.

For just $10 registration fee per person, competitors will be treated to a Continental breakfast after the race. Triathlon bikes are allowed, but the use of tri-bars is prohibited for safety purposes. Bike wheels require a minimum of 16 spokes and mountain bike slick tires must be at least 1.6 inches or larger to be considered for the mountain bike division. For the road bike division, tires must be 1.5 inches or less. Prizes will awarded to the first three top finishers in the Men and Women’s Road and Mountain Bike divisions.
