Memorial Day at American Memorial Park

(Press Release) — In observance of Memorial Day, American Memorial Park will honor all those who died serving in America’s armed forces.

In remembrance of the American servicemen who lost their lives during the World War II Marianas Campaign, park staff invites the community to join us in lighting hundreds of luminaria along the walkway to the Court of Honor. The luminaria will be lighted on Friday evening, May 25, 2018, and remain lit through Memorial Day.

The community is invited to:

  • • May 25 from 3 to 6 p.m.: Volunteer to help lay out the luminaria display and to place a luminaria in front of the Court of Honor to remember our fallen. A table will be set up with materials to personalize the luminaria; LED tea lights will be provided.
  • • May 25-28: Take time to remember those who gave their lives in service to our country. Visit the Court of Honor, which is inscribed with the names of 5,204 servicemen killed or missing in action during WWII. At sunset, you may pay tribute to our fallen in the glow of over 500 luminarias. Each luminaria represents 10 names inscribed on the Court of Honor. Wreaths made by participating local schools will also be on display to honor all servicemen and women who have lost their lives while serving our country.

During Memorial Day weekend and throughout the year, between the hours of 9 to 5 p.m., everyone is welcome to visit the Visitor Center, watch the park film, and tour the exhibits.  For more information contact Ranger Brooke Nevitt at 234-7207 ext. 2020 or email brooke_nevitt@nps.gov.

American Memorial Park was created to honor the American and Marianas people who died in the World War II Marianas Campaign.
