American Memorial Park Visitor Center returns to daily operations

(Press Release) — During the shutdown of the federal government due to the lapse of appropriations, national parks will remain as accessible as possible while still following all applicable laws and procedures.

Park roads, walking paths, memorials, and tennis courts at American Memorial Park will remain accessible to visitors, but emergency services will be limited.

Thanks to a generous donation by our partner, Pacific Historic Parks, the visitor center and bookstore will return to daily operations, but remain on the current schedule of 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Superintendent Barbara Alberti said, “We are pleased to be able to open the visitor center every day, although most of our other services are extremely limited. I want to thank our island community for their patience, as we are unable to maintain our park sites to our usual standards. Most importantly, we thank everyone enjoying the beach, pavilion, tennis courts, and ball fields for taking their trash home with them after using the park. We hope everyone will show respect for our island and its beautiful environment. Remember, ‘Pack It In, Pack It Out’ means take home everything you bring in to the park and Leave no Trace!”

These adjusted dates and times are subject to change throughout the duration of the federal government shutdown. National Park Service social media and websites are not being monitored or updated and may not reflect current conditions. For updates on the shutdown, please visit www.doi.gov/shutdown

There are  more than 20,000 National Park Service employees who care for America’s 418 national parks and work with communities across the nation to help preserve local history and create close-to-home recreational opportunities.
