Submit comments to military training plan

(PaganWatch) — Since 2015, the Mariana Islands Training and Testing plan or MITT has authorized the U.S. Navy to practice firing missiles, bombs and explosives in an expansive seaspace training range that surrounds the Marianas archipelago and spans just under one million square nautical miles — that’s about half the size of the continental U.S.

This year, the Navy released a MITT Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement or SEIS that documents additional impacts resulting from their military activities at sea and on Farallon de Medinilla.

The Navy is currently seeking public comments and questions regarding the SEIS. By submitting questions about activities that will affect animal and human lives, we can express our concerns and shape the conversation surrounding the Navy’s plans to drastically change our environment.

The commenting period is from Feb. 1, 2019 to March 18, 2019. There are a number of ways to submit comments: 1) online at, 2) via mail (see physical address at 3) or by attending the public forum on Feb. 27 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Kanoa Resort Saipan, Seaside Hall.
