US and CNMI flags lowered to half-staff in observance of Peace Officers Memorial Day

(Office of the Governor) — As a mark of respect and gratitude to our nation’s law enforcement officers, President Donald J. Trump proclaimed May 15, 2019 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and May 12 through May 18, 2019, as Police Week.

The President has directed that the flag shall be flown at half-staff on Peace Officers Memorial Day, May 15, 2019, at all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the federal government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its territories and possessions, until sunset.

“By the authority vested in me as governor of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands,” Gov. Ralph DLG Torres said, “I also direct that the flag of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands shall be flown at half-staff tomorrow, May 15, 2019, in observance of Peace Officers Memorial Day.”

The governor added, “On Peace Officers Memorial Day and throughout Police Week, we express our unending gratitude to our Nation's law enforcement officers. Those brave men and women selflessly confront danger to protect our families and defend our communities. We also honor those in blue who have been killed or disabled in the line of duty. I join the President and the Nation in calling upon all Americans to observe Peace Officers Memorial Day and Police Week with appropriate ceremonies and activities.”
