Friends of the Arts production of ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’

(Press Release) — The Friends of the Art’s production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” starts this Friday, May 31!

This Broadway musical with lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, will be performed Friday and Saturday of this week (May 31 and June 1) and Thursday and Friday of next week (June 6 and 7). The award-winning Broadway musical is co-directed by Katie Hoyt (music) and Harold Easton (stage) and choreographed by Angela Barbo for this Friends of the Arts production.

The show has only a few lines of spoken dialogue; it is almost entirely sung-through. The story is based on the Biblical story of Joseph, found in the Book of Genesis. In the beginning of the main story Jacob and his 12 sons are introduced. Joseph’s brothers are jealous of him for his coat of many colors, a symbol of their father’s preference for him. It is clear from Joseph’s dreams that he is destined to rule over them. To get rid of him and prevent the dreams from coming true they sell Joseph as a slave to some passing Ishmaelites, who take him to Egypt.

The play will be presented in the Regency Ballroom at the Hyatt Saipan. Show dates will be on Friday, May 31, starting at 7 p.m., and on Saturday, June 1, a matinee starting at 1:30 p.m. The following week there will be shows on Thursday, June 6, and Friday, June 7, both shows starting at 7 p.m. Tickets prices for all three shows start at $5 for Students, $8 for FOA Members, and $10 for Adults. You may purchase tickets from members of the play’s cast and at the door or reserve seats/tickets through Frank Gibson.

All members of the community are invited to attend, bring their family and friends, and enjoy the show. The Friends of the Arts would like to offer special thanks to the Hyatt Saipan and to its sponsors for their support.
