Responsible alcohol and tobacco sales workshop for retailers

(Press Release) — The Island Training Solutions in partnership with the Commonwealth Health Care Corporation, Community Guidance Center, through the support of the Department of Commerce, Alcohol Beverage and Tobacco Control Division, will be offering responsible alcohol and tobacco sales and services training for businesses who holds a class-4 off-sale alcohol retailer license and class-2 tobacco retailer license.

The training is tailored for merchants of alcohol and tobacco products on how to properly ID customers and teach your staff how to decline or refuse a sale. Part of the discussion in this training will also cover the regulations in addition to the importance of selling alcohol and tobacco responsibly and prevent the sale of alcohol and tobacco to minors.

Training yourself and your staff regarding the responsibilities of a licensee is aimed to help prevent the sale of alcohol and tobacco to minors, help prevent our youth access to alcohol and tobacco products at retail outlets, in addition to preventing violations and unnecessary fines against your business.

The training will be held on August 28 at the Fiesta Resort & Spa with the following scheduled classes:

o 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. (Korean and Chinese interpreters will be available)

o 1 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.

There will be handouts offered in Chinese and Korean to help business owners and managers whose primary language is not English. We will also have interpreters who will help with the training and allow for questions in your home language.

In an effort of maintaining compliance, it is essential in safeguarding our youth and growing a healthier community together through government/private partnership. Therefore, the ABTC Division strongly supports this program and urges all licensed Class-4 Off-Sale Alcohol Retailers and Class-2 Tobacco Retailers to attend or send a company representative to this training.

To confirm your attendance, please email or with the name of your store and the names of the participants from your business who will attend.
