DPS: Chalan Kanoa burglary case still ongoing

(DPS) — On Sunday, Aug. 11, 2019, at about 9:32 a.m., the Department of Public Safety received a 911 call reporting a burglary incident at the MMC2 apartments in Chalan Kanoa.

At about 10:28 a.m., a second victim drove to the DPS central station to file a complaint.

At approximately 10:39 a.m., a third individual approached an officer at the DPS central station stating that his vehicle had been burglarized at the MMC2 apartments.

In separate interviews, all victims mentioned that their vehicles were equipped with an alarm system, and none of them heard any alarms going off the night prior.

After further investigation, officers were able to view the building’s surveillance footage and noticed an unknown individual walking around the parking lot.

In the surveillance footage (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1MFpRy2zbUaxZDT2Z_NutGrc41IMOnXCo/view?ts=5d5b6a94) an unknown individual appears to be walking from the one vehicle to the next checking for any unlocked vehicle doors. It is believed that no alarms were triggered because the vehicles have not been properly secured.

This case remains ongoing. If you have any information on the identification of the suspect, call 911. If you wish to remain anonymous, call the CNMI Crime Stoppers hotline at 234-7272.
