Volunteers needed for VALOR program on Saipan

(Office of the Governor) — Recovery post-Super Typhoon Yutu continues as the CNMI-VALOR home repair program expands with the Commonwealth Advocates for Recovery Efforts pr C.A.R.E. partnership on Saipan. The CNMI-VALOR Program is seeking volunteers to join a community-wide initiative dedicated to rebuilding homes. Come help your neighbor.

On Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019 at 8 a.m., the Saipan Mayor’s Office will be teaming up with the CNMI-FEMA VALOR Program and C.A.R.E. to perform repairs on eligible homes. The VALOR Program provides emergency home repairs for owners, renters and occupants whose primary residence was damaged by Typhoon Yutu.

We ask for volunteers to help survivors conduct repairs so their homes are a safe place to reside. We encourage volunteers to bring tools such as a tape measure, hammer, handsaw, screwdrivers (Phillip and flathead), drills, and other tools that will be beneficial to the project. We also suggest volunteers to wear appropriate attire for construction work — close-toed shoes, gloves, etc.

The CNMI-FEMA VALOR Program will be providing repair materials, some tools and equipment to the project sites.

Come make a difference. Be a part of the recovery. Volunteer with the CNMI-VALOR program by calling Lee Tenorio from the Saipan Mayor’s Office at 234-6208.

VALOR repairs are limited to windows, doors, electrical, plumbing, accessibility needs, and roofing damage caused by Super Typhoon Yutu. You may qualify for the CNMI-FEMA VALOR Program, regardless of citizenship, if you have not previously received SBA funding or FEMA assistance for home repairs related to this disaster. Please contact cnmi-valor@fema.dhs.gov to verify if you are eligible for repairs through VALOR.
