FirstNet: Final Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement for the non-contiguous region

(Press Release) — On June 30, the First Responder Network Authority or FirstNet released the Final Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement for the Nationwide Public Safety Broadband Network in the non-contiguous region of the United States: Alaska, Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The Nationwide Public Safety Broadband Network or NPSBN is intended to enhance the ability of the public safety community to perform more reliably, effectively, and safely; increase situational awareness during an emergency; and improve the ability of the public safety community to effectively engage in those critical activities.

The Final Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement or PEIS considers all comments received on the draft PEIS, which was published in March 2016, and these comments are compiled in an appendix to the Final PEIS.

The Final PEIS also includes information updated since the draft PEIS to analyze potential impacts of the deployment and operation of the NPSBN on the natural and human environment, in accordance with FirstNet’s responsibilities under the National Environment Policy Act.

The Final PEIS is available for download from www.regulations.gov (FIRSTNET-FPEIS-2017-0001), as well as from https://www.firstnet.gov/network/peis.

A CD of this document is also available for viewing at public libraries.

After the release of the Final PEIS, FirstNet will publish a Record of Decision identifying the potential impacts associated with the project and the selection of an alternative.
