Marianas Health Services launches Christmas toy drive

(Marianas Health Services) — “Christmas toys for the CNMI’s girls and boys.”

Those were the words that George Cruz, administrator for Marianas Health Services, used in announcing a

CNMI-wide Christmas toy drive for needy children on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota.

Cruz feels there is a great need to bring Christmas joy to low income families who may not be able to buy gifts for their children.

“While many of us have the financial resources to buy our children new toys at Christmas, there are many struggling families who are not as fortunate,” he said.

The 2010 Christmas Toy Drive” is scheduled from Oct. 29 through Dec 19.

Cruz said Karidat Social Services has a data base of low income families and will assist in distributing the toys to all three islands.

Cruz said  the community’s support is needed on all three islands.

“We need more sponsors and more drop-off locations.  Any company, government and private, and any individual can assist.  We are asking for new, unwrapped toys to be donated for children up to the age of 12.  People can also help by passing out fliers and hanging posters and in wrapping the toys,” he said.

If you would like to donate new, unwrapped toys or would like to be a sponsor, contact Marianas Health Services at 233-4646 or Karidat at 234-5248.
