Public school classes resume today; no families used shelters

PUBLIC school classes on Saipan and Tinian resume today after a two-day suspension due to Tropical Storm Phanfone.

On Tuesday, six schools were designated as temporary shelters for those who might have to evacuate their homes: Tanapag Elementary School, Garapan Elementary School, Kagman High School, Chacha Oceanview Middle School, Dandan Middle School and Koblerville Elementary School.

But Education Commission Rita A. Sablan said no one sought shelter.

Associate Education Commissioner for Administrative Services Glen Muna said PSS is ready when it comes to responding to an emergency.

“Our personnel are always ready. The facilities are open if needed,” he said.

Some PSS students expressed relief upon learning that classes will resume today.

“I have nothing to do at home when there’s no class,” a student at Marianas High School said.
