Lady Knights pierce Lady Dolphins in MISO basketball

THE Mount Carmel School Lady Knights took a debut win over the Marianas High School Lady Dolphins, 67-30 in the opening game of the Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization Basketball League at the Gilbert C. Ada Gym last Friday.

The Lady Knights’ strong defense early in the game held the Lady Dolphins to five points in the first quarter.

Jan-Nasia Travilla scored five points including a free throw shot while Tawnie Manibusan and Karleen Reyes added four and two points respectively to put up a wide gap.

Lady Dolphins’ Alyvanna Garon started the second quarter with two-pointer and blasted a three-point shot in an attempt to close the gap but Travilla retaliated with her own shot from behind the arc, plus four more points to keep the lead.

The Lady Knights strengthened their defense in the third quarter to nail the Lady Dolphins score to three points—a three pointer from Alyvanna.

Reyes rampaged in the third quarters scoring eight points, Travilla fired another three-pointer and Masami Sato contributed four points and the Lady Knights did not look back.

Manibusan added six points in the fourth quarter to finish off the Lady Dolphins.

Lady Mantas, 42, Lady Ayuyu 27

Mary Kay Aleros scored 31 points to lead the Lady Mantas rout the Lady Ayuyus in the second game.

The Lady Ayuyus took the lead in the first quarter with Kelsey Lizama firing two consecutive two-pointers and Natasha Ngiraisui firing from the behind the arc.

Aleros came in the second quarter and dominated the game. She begun by blasting a three-pointer and kept hitting the basket to snatch the lead.

She continued her scoring streak in the rest of the game with Jamilia Alegre and Veronie Babauta helping out with one point and four points respectively to secure the victory.
